Research Group of Studying the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict was created by the decision of the Academic Council of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences on March 4, 2026.
The team of the Research Group includes experts from Department of Israel and Jewish communities Studies, Center for Arabic and Islamic Studies, as well as associate members.
The main aim of our Research Group is to promote the complex and systematic study of the history and current development of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The following areas of research are prioritized:
- studying the key issues of history, dynamics and the current state of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict;
- analysis of classical and new theoretical-methodological approaches to the study of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict;
- identification of key internal and external factors affecting Israel and Palestine, including ideological factors, memory policy and others;
- studying the problem of political violence, radicalization and the growth of the terrorist threat in Israel and Palestine;
- analysis of political institutionalization processes and transformations of power structures in Palestinian territories;
- research on the role of non-state actors and hybrid political-military structures in the formation of the management system and the legitimacy of power;
- identification of social and political tendencies in the development of Israeli and Palestinian societies and their influence on the dynamics of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict;
- studying the role of civil society and the activities of non-governmental organizations and individual leaders in Israel and Palestine;
- definition of tendencies, current state and perspective of the development of the military potential of conflict actors and the role of foreign assistance in it;
- studying the history and current state of peaceful settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including models, formulas and principles of conflict resolution, as well as the roles of various actors, negotiators, third forces etc.;
- monitoring the activities of external actors (states, international organizations etc) in the matter of policy formation in relation to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, identifying global, regional and national trends, as well as the influence they have on processes within Israel and Palestine;
- analysis of the role of diaspora, transnational communities and transnational networks in political mobilization and the formation of foreign political agendas in different countries of the world;
- analysis of international legal aspects of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
