Webinar: Webinar: "The Impact of Military Operations on Israel’s Economy"

On 28 April 2026, the Research Group of Studying the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences organised a webinar during which the economists F. Malakhov and D. Golubev used the State of Israel as a case study to examine the long-term and short-term effects of rising defence expenditure on the country’s economic development and national welfare, the pitfalls and risks that arise for key drivers of economic growth – human capital and investment – as well as the specific features and transformations of these phenomena against the backdrop of changing patterns of warfare during the current conflict in the Middle East.

The experts also addressed the question of the structure of resources used to finance Israel’s military expenditure and how the main dilemma associated with expenditure not planned by the state is resolved.
