On 31 March 2026, members of the Research Group of Studying the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences presented papers at the sub-section "The Individual and Society in Jewish and Israeli History" within the "Oriental and African Studies" section of the university-wide academic conference "Lomonosov Readings".

The event was organised by the Department for Jewish Studies at the Institute of Asian and African Studies, MSU.
L. Khlebnikova, PhD, Associate Professor at the Department for Jewish Studies, Moscow State University, and Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies, Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about the life and legacy of the Israeli female politician Shulamit Aloni (1927–2014), who made an enormous contribution to strengthening the protection of civil rights in Israel, particularly women’s rights, and who also helped to promote a peaceful resolution to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.
T. Karasova, PhD, Leading Research Fellow at the Department of Israel and Jewish Communities of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, focused in her presentation on the role and influence of Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu on Israeli politics.

M. Zubovskiy, a research assistant at the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, devoted his presentation to the views of one of Hamas’s leaders, Yahya Sinwar, as well as the formation of his image within Israeli society. Particular attention was paid to how Sinwar himself studied Israelis whilst in an Israeli prison, having learnt Hebrew and taken a series of courses on the history of Zionism and Israel.
